Post by: gilz45 on April 05, 2021, 08:36:13 PM
Per the request of Chelsea, Murrieta Valley Funeral Home, the family of Craig James Jr. has invited the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) to attend the Military Honors of their loved one as he makes his final journey. It will be our honor to do so.

Craig was born in Birmingham, Alabama on 16 November 1933.

Craig enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951, serving three years during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged from Fort Lee, Virginia as a PV2.

Craig was an early participant and champion in the social justice movement, he led the group that integrated the swimming pool at Maclin Park in the Collegeville Community of North Birmingham, Alabama. He worked for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for many years (thirty-three years) where he successfully fought in court and prevailed against racial discrimination and injustice. His case became case law and changed the history of the department. He opened the door for blacks and people of color in Los Angeles.

After his retirement, Craig and his wife relocated to Temecula.

Craig is survived by Joan, his loving wife of sixty-one years and eight children. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
