Lino volunteered his service for the United States Marine Corps on April 1, 1975, and Lance Corporal Lino Paul Torres was honorably discharged four years later. His MOS was (1121) plumbing and water supply and MOS (1141) electrician. Lino served his last year in the Corps as a rifle range coach. He was attached to First Marine Division, Engineer Battalion, Camp Pendleton. During his service, Lino was awarded the Good Conduct Metal and the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge.
Shortly after his discharge, Lino went to work for the City of Glendale Water and Power. He worked as a lineman and was promoted to Supervisor I, where he ran a line crew. He was then promoted to Supervisor II in charge of safety and training for the electric department. Lino retired after 30 years with the City in 2009.
Lino was a member of the American Legion Post 311 and an American Legion Rider of Chapter 311 for seven years. He became very involved in the Riders and his post. At the time of his passing, Lino was Sgt. At Arms at Post 311, and not only the Chapter 311 Vice President, but also the California ALR Area 6 VP. Lino was also a Patriot Guard Rider for many years and rode as the assistant to Dave Corbin for many years.
In retirement, Lino's number one passion was riding his red Harley Davidson CVO with flags flying. He was also an avid golfer and a member of the Three Putt Club for years. Lino was able to realize every golfer's dream of playing the courses at Pebble Beach. Another favorite pastime was taking his boat out on the Colorado River.
Above everything, Lino was a family man. He said that boot camp graduation was a great day because he met the love of his life. Lisa and Lino were married for 38 years. They have two sons, Ryan and Randy; a grandson, Ethan and a granddaughter Charlee. While the boys were growing up, he spent many afternoons and weekends coaching youth sports. Many years were spent in the dojo while the boys were earning their black belts. And, a few years freezing on the bleachers during Marching Band season. The family spent many long weekends with friends at their place in Parker Strip and camping in the motor home at Pismo. Lino adored his grandson, Ethan. They spent a lot of time together and shared a special bond. Lino was excited when he found out he was to be a grandpa again, and went shopping for a pink ruffled dress and HD jammies for Charlee. Lino is also survived by his mother, Kate and his aunts Virgie and Rose.
Note: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from his American Legion Post to his final resting place, approx 70 miles. Be sure to have refueled before arriving at the staging area. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
