The family of Richard David Bancroft, 89, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in the Celebration of Life service of their loved one and to honor this American Hero; we are honored to do so.

Mr. Bancroft enlisted December 12, 1942.   He was in Company A, 1st Battalion, 5TH Division.  He landed on Iwo Jima with his Division at noon on Monday February 9, 1945.  Three days later he was shot by a sniper, where he and another injured Marine helped each other back to the beach.  He was a very proud Marine..

In civilian life he worked as a Union Electrician for 34 years and was involved in most of the buildings in Downtown Los Angeles.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years in 2002.  His daughter also passed away in 2005 at the age of 49.   Richard is survived by his brother Robert, son and daughter in law, Curt (a So Cal PGR member) and Maryanne, 5 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Celebration of Life service including Flag Line and Honors will be held at the home of Curt and Maryanne Bancroft.
