The family of Robert Mercado, age 75, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their Hero as he receives his Honors for a lifetime of service, we are honored to do so.

Robert Mercado enlisted in the US Air Force in 1963, right after High School, and served 2 tours in Vietnam and was honorably discharged 6 years later in 1969 at the rank of Airman First Class.

After the military Robert became a Police Officer, first with Alhambra PD, then later with Huntington Park PD where he worked until retirement at the rank of Sergeant. Some of that time he was a motor patrol officer.

Even after retirement he continued to serve going to work for Homeland Security. He left for surgery with plans to return in 3 weeks after healing but was never able to return due to a stroke during surgery.

He pinned his nephew,  Robert Glaser,  at his graduation from the Riverside Sheriff Academy, one of his proudest days.  His father, Robert, served in WWII as a Marine, and he and his mother are buried at Riverside National Cemetery, where Robert will also be interred.

Robert loved the outdoors, his family and his dogs.  He also enjoyed boating and going to the river.  He was a wonderful father, husband, son, brother, uncle, friend.

He is survived by his wife, Cherlyn Mercado, a daughter, Laura Mercado, two brothers, Larry and Richard and his sister, Becky Glaser.  He his also survived by many nieces and nephews.
