The manager of Mead Mortuary Cemetery in Barstow has requested the SoCal PGR to honor a resident of the Barstow Veterans home, who has no known family nor close friends, on his final journey this Friday, 07 May 2021 to Riverside National Cemetery. It would be our honor to so.

Very little is known about this hero who did two tours in Vietnam serving as an aviation crew chief after entering the US Army on 19 Jan 1968.He served his country in the US Army for 3 years and was honorably discharged. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Two Overseas Bars, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Selwyn Wayne King, age 71, of Barstow, California passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2020. Selwyn was born March 19, 1949 in Texas. He was a resident of the Veterans Home of California Barstow.

Mitch Morales, director of both Mead in Barstow and Desert View in Victorville told me
"This gentleman had no living family or friends and it’s just really hard for me to have a veteran not get a service that he deserves.”

It will be an honor for the PGR to be his friends and family.

A visitation for Selwyn will be held Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM with military honors at 10 AM at Mead Mortuary, 36930 Irwin Rd, Barstow, California 92311. A Private Interment will occur at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, California 92518-2740. This will be a direct burial, no service is planned but the PGR can render a flag line at the burial site with COVID restrictions applied.

Our Hero will  begin his journey to RNC at 0915 at Mead. The coach will go to the administration building upon arrival at RNC. Unknown the length of time after arrival to the burial site.

If you wish to participate in his delivery enroute it will take about 50 minutes to reach the I-15/215 split and about 25 minutes to RNC depending on traffic.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the Hero and his family from the mortuary to the cemetery, approx 90 miles, please see the time table below.
