The family of James “Jim” Moffatt have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to honor their military hero. It will be our honor to do so.
James Leo Moffatt was born on 02/13/34 and entered into eternal rest on 03/31/21. He was 87 years old at the time of his death.
Jim served in the United States Air Force from 07/14/52 to 10/10/56. He was a Korean War veteran. He was stationed at Thule Airbase in Greenland. His training was in radar operations and he worked as an aircraft mechanic and equipment operator. His last duty assignment was the Maintenance Squadron Dow AFB, Bangor, Maine. He received the National Defense Service Medal.
After Jim’s exit from the service, he went to work for Thom McAn Shoes. He was the district sales manager for 40 years. He was forced into retirement because the company was downsizing and eventually closed. He then bought the Red Hill Coffee Shop in Rancho Cucamonga that he ran for 20 years until the age of 82. He was known to buy a veterans their breakfast and sit and share stories with them. He was instrumental in helping to establish the Armed Forces Banner Program in Rancho Cucamonga. This was established in 2005 to honor and recognize hometown active-duty military personnel. This program also provided banners for Gold Stars families at no cost. He loved our Vets!
Some of Jim’s hobbies included raising homing pigeons dating back to his early childhood years until he was 84 years old. He played as an extra in many movies and sitcoms and was even in a rap video in the 90’s. He belonged to the Cauliflower Alley Club, a club that was comprised of old boxers and actors.
Some of Jim’s favorite pastimes included horseracing, greeting and talking with soldiers as they passed through the USO at the Ontario Airport, and speaking at the local high schools to students about the time he spent in the military.
Jim is survived by his two children, James Moffatt and Patricia Hughes, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind two sisters, Mary Smith and Sharon Davidson.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
