The family of SgtMaj Charles Luther Constance USMC, Ret., has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.

Charlie was born on Ground Hog Day 02 February 1947 in Corpus Christi, Texas, and entered into Eternal Rest on 21 May 2021.

His family settled in Alexandria, Virginia. Charlie graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1966 where he excelled in wrestling. 

Charlie proudly served in the Marine Corps for thirty years from 1968 to 1998. He was with 1st Battalion, 4th Marines in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969. He served in Desert Storm. Charlie continued wrestling in the Marines placing 2nd in the Wrestling Military CISIM at the 1971 International Military World Games in Greece.  Charlie became an instructor in the Marine Security Guard Program. Charlie served overseas as the NCOIC of Detachments in Seoul, South Korea and in Cairo, Egypt. While stationed at Camp Pendleton, Charlie made history when assigned to 1st ANGLICO (Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company) making over seventy jumps at age 50. In 1998, Charlie was honorably retired as the
Regimental Sergeant Major, 1st Marines.

After his retirement, Charlie was honored to have his Meritorious Service Medal pinned by then-President George H.W. Bush.

Charlie loved to fish, boating, crabbing, and woodworking.

He married Kathleen Duvall in 1969 while on R&R in Hawaii and since have celebrated 53 Anniversaries.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Kathleen J., daughters, Shannon Laub and Summer Kerr, three grandchildren, Max, Skyler, and Vance, and his brother, Harry Constance.

Charlie was 100% disabled, combat-related, as a result of Agent Orange.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all PGR Members are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the funeral home to his final resting place. Please see the timetable if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
