At the invitation of the family and the U.S. Army, the Patriot Guard has been requested to meet the arrival of this Hero as he arrives home to his family, and attend his funeral services, we would be honored to do so.
 
SPC Kenneth Clifford Alvarez, 23, was killed in Afghanistan on 23 AUG 13, when his unit was attacked with an IED during combat operations.  SPC Kenneth C. Alvarez was killed along with one of his brothers in arms, PVT Jonathon M.D. Hostetter, who will also be honored by the PGR in his home state of Missouri.
 
SPC Kenneth C. Alvarez enlisted in the U.S. Army Nov, 2011, he was assigned to 2nd Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, he was a combat engineer. He is the 4th Hero from Santa Maria who was Killed in Action in OEF and OIF.  His name will be added to the community's Freedom Monument Veterans Memorial later this year.
 
SPC Kenneth Alvarez, or Kenny, as he was known to family and friends, grew up in Santa Maria, and graduated from Delta High School.  He was selected for "Best Smile" in his senior class in the school yearbook.  He is described by friends as always smiling and a friend to everyone.  He is described by the military as a dedicated and passionate soldier. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
 
Kenny Alvarez is survived by his wife and daughter.
 
NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from his arrival to a location which will be disclosed at the mission briefing. Please see the time table if you would like to participate.
 
NOTE: Due to heightened security for all military funerals, it is very important that you do not share the details of this mission outside of trusted PGR members. Do not discuss these details on other forums, blogs or social media networks. During the mission please report any suspicious activity to the R/C.

ACCOMMODATIONS:  If you are traveling some distance and wish to seek overnight accommodations there is a special rate at Best Western Hotel, 1725 N. Broadway, Santa Maria, CA 805-922-5200.  Mention the PGR rate and they are offering $75 - King, $80 - 2 queens, $85 - Mini suite.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.
