The family of Jimmy Albert Everett has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

Jimmy Everett, 74, proudly served his country in the Unites States Army from July 1967 through May 1969.  He served in combat in Vietnam, and his primary role was to direct artillery at enemy targets.  At one point he volunteered for a reconnaissance mission with the Special Forces, and suffered a gunshot wound from an enemy sniper when he was attempting to rescue a wounded lieutenant.  Jimmy was subsequently awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.  Upon his honorable discharge he had attained the rank of Army Specialist 5.

Jimmy and his siblings were born in the US, but they were sent to live in Cuba, with their Cuban mother’s family.  The Everett family children were moved to Cuba to have stability from the constant moving of a military family, as their father was a career Marine.  While they were living in Cuba, the Castro Revolution occurred.  Through that direct experience living in a communist regime, Jimmy desired to fight to defeat communism.  Jimmy was proud of his military service and his fellow soldiers, but unfortunately suffered the long term effects of PTSD.

After his discharge from the Army, Jimmy earned a college degree in business, but due to his PTSD was unable to maintain a business career.  He spent most of his post service life in Florida, where he was an icon in the sky diving community.
Jimmy is survived by his sisters Lidia Everett and Mirta Hamari, and his brother John Everett.

The family has requested the Patriot Guard to meet the family in the Rancho Bernardo area, and accompany them as they bring their hero to Miramar National Cemetery a distance of approximately 18 miles.  It will be our honor to do so.

Note: This notice is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran.  For those interested, and all are welcome, please see the time table if you would like to participate.  For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.
