The family of Randy Dean Kaipo Hoffman, 51, USA, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to the final call of honors for their cherished hero on 26/6/18 at Riverside National Cemetery with an accompanied final ride beginning in Barstow. It will be our duty and honor to do so.

Randy was a native of Virginia Beach, VA graduating from the local Bay Side HS. Following graduation our hero enlisted into the US Army in Sept 1984 in Richmond, VA. He eventually became part of the famed Airborne Ranger Reg.  His deployments included Panama. He eventually departed the service at Ft. Irwin, CA (NTC) as a Chemical Specialist. He loved his time in the military and his men loved him.  At the time of his honorable discharge he had attained the rank of SSgt.

Our hero was part of a group of 8 motorcyclists traveling to Riverside for the annual West Coast Thunder parade on Memorial Day when he struck an abandoned auto that had crashed into another on I-215 near the University Ave  South onramp. Randy was vehicle 7. The first 4 bikes were able to go around the accident. Bikes 5 & 6 crashed into each other with minor injuries. Randy tried rolling to the right but impacted the side of the car and flew over. His female passenger became wedged under the car and sustained major injuries. She is still in rehab but is expected to attend the service. Randy’s fight for life continued in the hospital where he was coded 4 times before doctors declared him dead. Witnesses stated he attempted to roll the bike in a way to save the life of the passenger.

Unfortunately Randy's DD214 was very illegible so much info on his military life including awards are a mystery. Following his enlistment he was a civilian employee at the NTC and also was a Heavy Equipment Mechanic Supervisor at the Marine Corps Logistics Base. He was employed at the Nation Training Center at the time of his death.

Randy loved riding his HD with fellow veterans including the Brotherhood of Military Veterans, a small group in the High Desert, who enjoy helping military veterans and widows. This same group requested  to be part of the procession to RNC and it will be our honor to welcome them. Mr. Hoffman also enjoyed playing golf and was very involved at his church, New Life Fellowship on Main St in Barstow.

His survivors include wife Tammy Hoffman, son Matthew, daughters Sara and Katelyn, step sons Lawrence Bustamante, David Hernandez, Chris Richardson, Shaun Burger, mother Vera, sisters Stacy and Vicki, former wife Gloria, and many grandchildren.

There will be a Celebration of Life on June 23, 1 PM at the church. We will not have an official function at this service. However, if you wish to attend the church is located at 134 W. Main, Barstow. We will gather at the Park and Ride on Tuesday the 26th at the parking lot across from the Home Depot on L St just north on the I-15 at 9:30.  Fuel services just down the road. KSU for RNC at 1000.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the church services to his final resting place, Riverside National Cemetery. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

Note: The weather is predicted to be hot so please stay hydrated and don't forget to eat; it can make a difference with your ability to withstand the heat.
