The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to honor the life and service of Officer Nathan Martin, Oxnard Police Department, by his family and department. It will be our honor and privilege to do so.

Officer Nathan David Martin, or “Nate the Great”, as he was affectionately known, was born in Oxnard, CA on June 4, 1974. He was raised in Camarillo, CA and spent much of his youth playing basketball, volleyball, skateboarding and traveling to Arizona in the back of the family station wagon. He was awarded Boy Scouts of America’s highest rank, Eagle Scout, before his 14th birthday, quite a feat.  After graduating from high school, he spent 2 years in Ecuador on a mission for the LDS Church.

Nathan married the love of his life, Marita, in 1997. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Spanish as California State University Northridge and started his career with the Oxnard, CA Police Department. He worked as a patrol officer, property crimes detective and motor officer. His last assignment was as a school resource officer at Hueneme High School. It was said “Officer Martin understood the misunderstood”.

Officer Martin’s life was tragically taken away in an accident while on his way home from work on a motorcycle on January 29, 2020. This is a great loss for his family, fellow LEO’s, his church family and the community as large. Nate the Great will be missed, but he will not be forgotten.

Nathan is survived by his wife Marita, his two sons, Gabriel and David, his daughter Soraya and his mother Susan, and eight siblings.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Law Enforcement Officer.
