The family of BT1 Roy Lee Underwood has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country.   It will be our privilege to do so.

Roy Underwood, 79, served his country for 20 years in the US Navy, time that included duty in Vietnam.  His last assignment was aboard the Gearing-class destroyer USS John R. Craig (DD-885).

For his service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Bronze Star, 3 Good Conduct Medals, and Letters of Commendation from the Commanders of the Third and Seventh Fleets.   After 20 years of honorable service he retired at the rank of Boiler Technician Petty Officer 1st Class (E-6).

The family has requested an accompaniment from Greenwood Memorial Park to a 1230 committal service at Miramar National Cemetery, a distance of approximately 14 miles.

There will be motor escorts.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the chapel service to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.
