The friends and family of Ricky Lynn Akin, 55, of Barstow requests the services of the Patriot Guard Riders, flag line only, in honoring their beloved son, ex-husband, and step father Friday, 24 July 15, at Meads Mortuary, 36930 Irwin Rd, Barstow, CA., 92311. It will be our honor to do so.


Mr. Akin died July 19 of natural causes in Barstow.



Our hero served 14 years in the US Army, final rank E6. He entered the service in 1979 and was discharged in 1993. Following his discharge in Germany he worked for Northrup Grumman at Ft. Irwin as a tank mechanic.


His awards include the Overseas Ribbon, the Army Good Conduct medal, Expert Infantryman badge, Non-com professional development ribbon, Army Achievement Medal, Army service and national defense ribbon, Expert M16 rifle and grenade, and 7 Oak Leaf Cluster.


He is survived by his mother Nancy Sue Gambrel in Tennessee and step-father Don Gambrel. His siblings include Leroy, Robert, Sandra, and Nikki. He is also survived by his step daughter Erica Ryan and step son Joshua Ryan, ex-wife Caroline and nieces and nephews.


No military honors will be rendered in Barstow. The deceased will be transferred to the his families home in Tennessee where military honors will be done.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.
