Part 2 of 2 Parts

The family and the US Army have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend the funeral of a Hero coming back to the US and his family, we are honored to do so.

SGT Donald Lee Murphy was serving with the US Army in what is now North Korea near the Chosin Reservoir on December 2, 1950 when he was lost in battle.  He was serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, 31st Regimental Combat Team. He has been Missing in Action for nearly 69 years.

A few months ago President Donald Trump arranged a meeting with the Leaders of North Korea who agreed to return remains to the US as part of that meeting, SGT Murphy was one of the 55 remains released. On September 4, 2019 SGT Murphy was identified through DNA submitted by his family and is now returning home.

SGT Murphy's nephew, Donald Murphy, who was named after him, recalls many stories in the family about his uncle.  He said that he joined the Army with his brother Harold, but Donald was the one who wanted to join the Army and see the world.  He will now come home and be buried in the same cemetery his brother and father are buried, Fort Rosecrans in San Diego.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this American Hero. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the mortuary to the cemetery, approx 18.5 miles. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.
