The family of Edward Albert Cerny, 92, has requested the services of the Patriot Guard Riders in honoring the life of their recently departed hero. It would be our honor to do so.

Mr. Cerny was a T-3 with the US Army, being drafted into the service in 1943 at Camp Perry in Ohio until his discharge in 1945. His duties included being a stenographer for a colonel. He was involved in the invasion of Normandy and also served in either North Africa or the Middle East. According to his son who serves as president of the Black Sheep in Lake Elsinore, his father did not discuss much details of his war years. After his father’s death and reviewing his discharge papers, they discovered he had been presented the European-African-Middle Eastern Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and The Croix de Guerre. His son once asked him where he was when he turned 21. His father replied onboard a ship heading for Europe. He really enjoyed the beauty of London and Paris in addition to the countries of England and France.

Following his discharge he was employed with the White Motor Co. in Ohio, in addition to the Cunnard Lines and JG Boswell Co. He also toured the states doing vaudeville and barbershop quartet. Other hobbies included golfing, bowling, woodworking, and painting.

Our Hero is survived by his spouse Bette Mae Cerny, sons Timothy and Dean, and 5 grand children.
