!!! UPDATE !!! NEW TIME TABLE BELOW !!! CORRECTED DESTINATION !!!

This will be a 2 part mission

The family and the U.S. Marine Corps have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend the arrival of this Fallen Hero, SSgt Louis F. Cardin, 27, to his family in So California.  We will be honored to do so.

SSgt Louis F. "Louie" Cardin was Killed In Action on 19 March, 2016 in Iraq in an enemy rocket attack on an Iraqi base that was attributed to the Islamic State.

SSgt Cardin enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps shortly after graduating from Chapparal High School in Temecula, CA. in 2006. He was born in Riverside, California and grew up in the Temecula area.

SSgt Cardin served 3 deployments in Afghanistan in addition to his recent deployment to Iraq and was aiming for at least a 20 year career in the Corps.  He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He had recently secured a promotion that allowed him to be a mentor to younger Marines, which had long been one of his goals.

All those that knew this young Marine recall his sense of humor and wit, and his ability to inspire others.
One example was when they all got together for a group photo, one of those that usually features a group of Marines in full gear staring back at the camera with grim visages. Right before the digital shutter clicked, Louis F. Cardin flashed a “thumbs up” sign. “Being around him in a group, you almost couldn't be in a bad mood,” recalled a retired Marine who served with Cardin for two tours in Afghanistan, from 2009 to 2012.

As news spread of his death – which included a tribute by President Barack Obama during his news conference with Cuban President Raul Castro – friends and family comforted each other by remembering a man who used humor to help his squad get through intense situations, a man who chose to live close to his buddies in the barracks when he could have moved to a house off-base, a man who offered to baby-sit for friends who needed a date night.  He will be sorely missed and Never Forgotten!

Part 1 of this mission will consist of meeting with the family as they receive their Hero home to So California and accompany to the funeral home.

SSgt Cardin is survived by his parents, several siblings and extend family and friends.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this American Hero. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the point of arrival to the funeral home.  Please see the time table if you would like to participate. If you would like to meet at the funeral home please prepare for a flag line as the procession arrives.

NOTE: Due to heightened security for all military funerals, it is very important that you do not share the details of this mission outside of trusted PGR members. Do not discuss these details on other forums, blogs or social media networks. During the mission please report any suspicious activity to the R/C.
