The family of Dr. James S. Shafer (Age 82) has invited the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) to attend the Military Honors of their loved one as he makes his final journey. It will be our honor to do so.

Dr. James was in the U.S. Air Force from June 10, 1963 to January 10, 1968. James was a Flight Surgeon at the time of his honorable discharge.

Dr. James was raised in Chippewa Falls, WI. Church and family friends and relatives played a big part in his upbringing since his father passed when he was 4. His Scout Master in WI had a huge impact on James life as he guided him through Boy Scouts and attainment of his Eagle Scout Badge.  James went on to college and Medical School University of Wisconsin. He interened at the VA in Los Angeles prior to fulfilling his military service as a Captain and Flight Surgeon.

After his military service he continued his love for the skies, piloting his own plane. His hobbies were traveling, skiing, water sports, riding motorcycles and biking. After serving as a general practitioner in Covina, CA he trained as a Orthopedic Surgeon in Louisville, KY. He spent the next 42 years serving the East San Gabriel Valley.

Medicine, Family and Friends were everything to him!

James is survived by his wife – Linda, Son – Jeremy and daughters – Julie and Lindsay. Brother – Richard, 1 niece, 2 nephews and his beloved dog “Sadie”.

Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
