The family of John "JJ" Leonard has asked the Patriot Guard to join them in honoring their hero, and we a proud to stand with them.

JJ was a proud Marine who served his country as a Radio Relay Operator from 1958 to 1962 rising to the rank of Lance Corporal.

JJ continued to serve as a 37 year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department as a motor officer.  Fifteen years of that he was the Master Drill Instructor for the LAPD Motor Drill Team.  He was also a life member of the American Legion and 1st Marine Division Association, past Secretary of the Los Angeles Police Emerald Society as well as a member of the Iron Spartans and MMOC.

JJ loved to show off his extensive collection of Police and Military memorabilia while swapping stories with his visitors.

JJ is survived by his wife, Julie Ann; daughters Karen Nivens, and Sharon Leonard; sons Phillip and James Leonard; grandchildren Kevin and Cole Nivens, and Son-In-Law Craig Nivens.
