The family of William Lyle McCart has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in the services of their loved one and to honor this American Hero. We are honored to do so.
William served in the United States Coast Guard from 1942 to 1945. He was trained in Corpus Christie, Texas to work on sub chasers in the Gulf of Mexico and later in the Atlantic out of New Jersey. In August 1945, William was on a troop train to Long Beach, California to be shipped to the invasion of Japan (WWII), but the war had already ended after his arrival. He and his wife Gretchen remained in Long Beach after his tour of duty.
Both William and Gretchen learned the tailoring trade/art. They worked in Long Beach and bought a tailor shop in 1959, in which they both worked until they retired in 1988. They both loved traveling and playing golf. His wife Gretchen McCart proceeded him in death three years ago and he kept her ashes with him until they could be laid to rest together.
William is survived by sister, Helen Morris, aged 93, daughter Kathy McCart Snyder and husband Herb and their daughters Zoe and Maxx, daughter Karen McCart-Afshar,and her husband Shahrokh; daughter Megan Afshar; and their son Captain Todd Afshar, his wife Jane and their son Collin Lyle.
NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the church to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
