The family and the US Army have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend the arrival and services of a Hero who was a POW in the Korean War and died in the camps. It will be our honor to do so.

Corporal Clarence Ray Skates proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

"Ray" was assigned to Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division.

In November of 1950, Corporal Skates' unit was overrun by units of the Chinese People's Volunteer Forces and he was taken prisoner.

His date of death is listed as November 30, 1950. He was 19 years old.

His remains were now accounted for and were identified in June of 2017. He will be repatriated to the United States for burial in Riverside National Cemetery. This Hero is finally home, with his family, and on US soil.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this American Hero. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the mortuary to the cemetery, approximately 11 miles. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.
