The family of Floyd Arvin Hollingshead has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

Arvin Hollingshead, 84, was born April 9, 1933 in Brawley, California.   He served his country in the US Navy from 1951 to 1955, time that included duty in the Korean War.  Arvin served as Sonar Operator aboard the USS Stembel (DD-644), a Fletcher-class destroyer. While on duty at his sonar station, Arvin detected an enemy submarine and his ship fired on the submarine causing its retreat and defending the 7th fleet. 

For his service Arvin was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal w/ 2 stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the China Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. At the time of his honorable discharge Arvin had attained the rank of SO2 Sonarman Petty Officer 2nd Class.

In civilian life Arvin was an electrician and instructor with the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers).   He loved dancing, RVs and the love of his life, Norma. 

Arvin was preceded in death by and will be reunited with his beloved Norma who is already interred at Fort Rosecrans. He is survived by 2 brothers, 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.
