'Homes for Our Troops' has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in the Holiday Key Ceremony for Marine Sgt. Julian Torres and his family recently built in Fallbrook, CA.  We are honored to do so.  HFOT builds these homes at no cost to the Heroes in order to make them access friendly for their needs. On the 9th of March 2013, the PGR Accompanied Sgt Torres to his groundbreaking.   We met a real hero that day.  Now his home is ready.

Marine Sgt Julian Torres was crossing a canal in Marjah, Afghanistan after a morning firefight when he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED) resulting in the loss of his left leg below the knee and his right leg above the knee. The injury occurred on July 15, 2010, just one month into his first deployment.  Sgt Torres was medically evacuated from the field to Camp Dwyer where he was stabilized and then airlifted to Camp Bastion Hospital and then flown to Landstuhl, Germany. He was then transported to Walter Reed where he began receiving his initial rehabilitation surgeries and therapies.  Sgt Torres is now an avid supporter of veterans in his community and runs an inpatient PTSD rehabilitation program and biweekly patient peer support group at Balboa Naval Medical Center in San Diego. His immediate goals include attending San Diego State University to obtain his master’s degree; his long-term goal is to become a public speaker.

This is a real honor as the PGR will be able to privately meet this Wounded Warrior again, and then accompany him to his new home.  Let's have a good turnout for Sgt. Torres and his family as this will be our opportunity to thank him for his valiant service and his tremendous sacrifice.  Bring your smiles, bring your flags, and help celebrate this day for this brave Hero!  You will also be able to see the inside of this custom built home.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying him to the site of his new home.   Please see the time table if you would like to participate.
