The family of Arthur Bennett has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to honor their hero at his final military honors. It will be our privilege to fulfill their request.
Art proudly served in the United States Navy and Navy Reserve from 1968-1970. At the time of his honorable discharge, he held the rank of SN (E-3). He served in West Pac - Vietnam - on the USS Bullock (LST-509), a tank landing craft. They were operating as a supply and maintenance ship servicing the FAST Boats. They also were carrying Agent Orange to resupply said boats.
Following his service to America, he worked for the Downey Unified School District in their main administration office. He became the President of the California Employees Union. At one of his meetings, he announced that his divorce was final and that he was now “back on the market.” It was at that meeting that his now wife, Pat, thought that since she was also recently divorced, she could approach him. Pat was a Special Education Teaching Assistant. They were married 4 months later and would’ve been married 30 years in August. His interests included Dodgers Baseball and they both enjoyed motorcycle riding. They also participated in Patriot Guard Rider missions.
Our hero is survived by his wife, Pat, their daughter, Annette, and his two stepsons, Mike and Bart. He is also survived by his brother, Bob Bennett, (also a Navy Veteran), and 8 grandchildren ages 7-23 years.
