The family of Gary Lee Edwards, 79, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.
Gary joined the United States Marine Corps in 1964 and served honorably until 1970. Gary obtained the rank of Sergeant (E5) in his six years. During these six years, Gary earned the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Rifle Expert Badge, and Presidential Unit Citation.
After his military service, Gary owned and operated five dry cleaning stores in the San Diego and East County area, followed by a few part time jobs. Gary loved watching his kids play sports and taking them to La Jolla Cove to snorkel and eat McDonald’s Big Breakfasts when they were younger. He also loved spending lots time with his grandkids and teaching them about life. As well, he loved taking care of his plants and hummingbird feeder for the hummingbirds, eating Chips Ahoy cookies and chocolate cake with no frosting.
Gary was married to the love of his life, Carol, for 54 years! They have two daughters, Jamie and Loni as well as four grandchildren.
NOTE: You do not have to be a veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this is your first mission, go to the initial staging area, and you will be briefed by the Ride Captain (RC). Dress for motorcycle riding or wear casual attire while driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
Remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent with honor and respect for our heroes - no talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we honor.
