The family of James Merriken, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this Hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

James Merriken was a combat vet of WWII and the Korean War.    James enlisted on June 20, 1941.  He then participated in action against the Japanese on Solomon Islands and Okinawa.  He was weapons qualified as Rifle Marksman and Pistol Marksman.  He earned special military qualifications in Armored Aircraft.  He was honorably discharged on November 29, 1945.  While serving he earned the Good Conduct Medal.  He was reactivated on September 4, 1947 (Korean War) and served as an Aviation Ordnance Chief.  He was honorably discharged again on September 28, 1954 at the rank of Master Tech Sergeant.  James was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, American Defense Service, Marine Corp Good Conduct, World War II Victory, Asiatic Pacific Campaign and National Defense Service.

James was an avid motorcycle racer for many years and taught his children, Mindy and Michael, to ride when they were very young.  He worked in retail sales, furniture sales.  He also owned a wine store in San Diego for several years.  James was a strong Christian along with his wife Joanie.  Both were very involved in several churches in North County over the years.  He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.

The family is requesting a flag line only at Miramar National Cemetery.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.

Please post your condolences at the National link:
