The family of Luis Avila Sr., US Navy and Vietnam veteran, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor him for his service to our country. It would be our honor to do so.

Luis “Polin” Avila, 72, was born March 29, 1946 in El Paso, Texas. He graduated from Tech High School. Luis proudly served his country in the Navy from 12/27/65 - 11/12/68. Luis was in the Navy during the Vietnam War and his rank when he left was Seaman, E-3. The last ship he was on was the USS Klondike AR22. The ship was a destroyer tender and did many deployments to Vietnam from 1967 to 1969. For her service in Vietnam the Klondike was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star for the Tet Counteroffensive and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Luis’ additional awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

After his time in the military he had a career as an Aircraft Inspector spanning over 35 years. Polin's hobbies included TV shopping. He loved spending time with his beautiful grandchildren whom he adored, taking many photos of them and his entire family. His favorite Holiday was Christmas and loved playing the role of Santa Clause (All year long).

Luis leaves behind his mother, Lucrecia Avila; his children, Elsa Mercado, Edna Witt, Lucrecia Pichardo and Louie Avila Jr. His siblings, Alberto Avila, Cecilia Reyes, Hipolito Avila Jr., Ernest Avila and Arturo Avila. Also, thirteen grandchildren and one great granddaughter due in August.
