The family of USN (Ret.) AE1 David B. Greaney, age 90, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their Hero for his service.  It will be our privilege to do so.

David Greaney served in the USN from 1948-1970. He served 22 years in the Navy as an aviation Electrician’s Mate which included three tours in Vietnam and Antarctica Deep Freeze Two!  After the Navy, he settled in Poway, CA and he worked for the post office for a short time, then went to work for MCRD as an emergency maintenance supervisor.

His volunteer efforts are numerous including:  Poway Sheriff's Department as a Citizens on Patrol; Forestry Service locking up the parks at night; Little League coach and manager; swim instructor in the Poway Backyard Swim Program; girls softball program; Boy Scouts of America; and, he volunteered at schools educating students about Memorial Day, service to country and sharing his experience in Antarctica.  Dave worked tirelessly on behalf of veterans, serving in many capacities with the VFW, including Commander of Post 7420, and VFW District Chaplain. Starting in 1987, he volunteered at the VA Hospital, driving veterans to and from appointments. He worked on the Wheelchair Veterans Games Committee. David also taught "55 Alive" driving classes and coordinated 15 other instructors through the American Association of Retired Persons. Additionally, Dave belonged to the Patriot Guard Riders. Dave was a devoted Catholic and involved with many church activities. David's commitment to volunteering earned him Poway's Man of the Year in 1999.

He is survived by his wife, Rosella (Buff); children Virginia, David and Glenn (Amy); siblings, Margaret, Marie, John, and Bill; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.
