It is an honor the family of Detective Alexis Gonzalez and the South Gate Police Department have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in their loved one's funeral services.

Detective Alexis Gonzalez was born and raised in South Gate, California.

In March of 2013, Alexis joined the South Gate Police Explores where he attained the rank of Captain. One year later, in March of 2014, Alexis was hired as a South Gate Public Safety Officer. In July of 2016 he joined the South Gate Police Department and in January 2017 he graduated from the Rio Hondo Police Academy, Class 203, realizing his dream, becoming a South Gate Police Officer.

Alexis served the South Gate community as a police officer until January of 2021 when he was promoted to the rank of Detective. Alexis loved his work and was a very caring person.

Sadly, on 24 APR 22, Alexis, while off duty, was involved in a single-vehicle traffic accident and succumbed to his injuries.

His fellow officers remembered him as a detective and a friend, with South Gate’s chief of police saying his career was “unbelievably promising.”

“The ambitious drive to be successful outside of work was limitless and his personality and character was beyond unique,” said Chief Darren Arakawa. “His extended family here at the Police Department has been devastated and there’s been a profound sense of loss.”

Alexis is survived by his father, Jose; mother, Lisbeth and brothers, Jose and Marc (Marc is a Student Worker with the South Gate Police Department)
