It is an honor the family of Roberto C. Sanchez and the Los Angeles Police Department invites the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in the loss of their loved one.

Officer Sanchez was a six-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, assigned to Harbor Division Patrol.  On 3 MAY 14, Officer Sanchez and his partner were attempting to stop a traffic violator.  The violator made a sudden u-turn in an apparent attempt to elude the officers.  Officer Sanchez, in the middle of making his U-turn was allegedly intentionally rammed by an SUV in an attempt to allow the traffic violator to escape.  The police vehicle was so badly damaged that the police communication radio was inoperable and Officer Sanchez's partner had to use his cell phone to request help.  The driver of the second vehicle, a friend of the violator, was detained by other responding police units and subsequently arrested and booked for murder, vehicular manslaughter, assault on a police officer and leaving the scene of an accident.

Officer Sanchez's partner is recovering from a broken jaw.

Roberto was an only child and is survived by his wife of three months, Sonia; mother, Patricia and father, Francisco.

Note: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Hero. For those interested, and all are welcome, The Patriot Guard Riders are invited to attend graveside services. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. Funeral services are scheduled the same day as many of the Patriot Guard Rides leave on the Run for the Wall. If you are not going to RFTW, please try and make the time to honor this hero, his family and the Los Angeles Police Department.  This is the third Los Angeles Police Officer killed in a traffic incident in the past two months.
