The family of Sam G. Ortiz has requested the presence of the Patriot Guard Riders to honor this American Hero; it will be our honor to do so.

Sam was born on 15 November 1920 and entered Eternal Rest on 06 November 2016

Sam was drafted into the United States Army on 23 October 1942 and served with Company "A", 1st Battalion, 349th Infantry Regiment of the 88th Infantry Division.  He served as a squad leader in Northern Africa and Italy between 1942 and 1945.  He received a Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Europe-Africa-Middle East Campaign Medal with three battle stars, and the World War Two Victory Medal.  Sam was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.

Sam enjoyed making candy for his family and was always trying to figure out how things worked. Well into his eighties Sam would work out with the kids at the local boxing club and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Sam is survived by his spouse Maria Esther, daughter Gloria, son Louie, grandchildren Dianna, Jason, Eric and Lisa, six great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran.

Please remember to post your condolences for the family to this link:  https://www.patriotguard.org/showthread.php?425000

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
