UPDATE!! Doyle F. Brawley, 88, USN, FLO RNC, 07 September
« on: September 02, 2022, 01:17:39 AM »
The family of Doyle Franklin Brawley has invited the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) to attend the Military Honors of their loved one as he makes his final journey. It will be our honor to do so.

Doyle was born on March 11, 1934 and entered into Eternal Rest on August 18, 2022.

Doyle enlisted in the US Navy at the end of Korean War and was an Electrician Apprentice, eventually promoting to Electrician's Mate.  He served aboard the USS Southerland DDR 743.  On 21 Aug 1957, upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he transferred to the US Naval Reserves serving in San Diego, and was honorably discharged from the US Navy on 24 Aug 1961.  He earned the China Service Medal (Ext).

After his military service, Doyle was a Police Officer in the City of Lake Elsinore for three years and also drove an ambulance during that time.  In early 1960, he relocated his family to Missouri (where he was born and raised) in order to be closer to his family.  Approximately two years later, they returned to Southern California where be began working as a Police Officer for the City of San Jacinto.  He eventually became an Animal Control Officer with the County of Riverside, promoting to Supervising Animal Control Officer and retired after 24 years.  He loved woodworking, hunting, fishing and telling jokes.  His favorite past-time was pitching horseshoes, winning many first place tournament trophies.  He is well known in the horseshoe community and has an annual tournament named after him called the "Doyle Brawley Open".  He was essential in creating the first horseshoe pitching park in what is now known as Jurupa Valley.  He is predeceased by his wife, Kay, who passed away 14 months ago.  He is survived by his two children, Debra (Ron) and Daryl (Jeri), four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews (including his niece, Kyle Millager, a member of our Mission Ops Team).

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this American Hero.  For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, please see the time table if you would like to participate.

UPDATE:  The family has invited the PGR to wear a white t-shirt and blue jeans for the services.  This was the "uniform" that Doyle was known for wearing for many years in his retirement years.  Thank you!!
