One of our own members, Ed Shimko, and family, have requested the presence of the Patriot Guard Riders to attend the final military honors of their father, father-in-law, grandpa, Charles Edward Jarvis, 95, who will be interred with his wife.  It is our privilege to fulfill their request.

Charles was born in Pittsburg, Oklahoma on Aug 25, 1927 and passed three days after his 95th birthday in Aug 2022.  On July 25, 1945, at the age of 17, Charles joined the Naval Reserves.  He served in the Philippines with the Seabees during the reconfiguration of Subic Bay Naval Base and construction of the Cubi Point runway, which is still in use to this day.  The last months of his enlistment found him at the Navy Barracks in Wash DC as a courier.  His effective date of separation from Naval Service was March 16 1952.  Charles received an Honorable Discharge and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal.  His final rank was Storekeeper 3rd class.

In later life and prior to retirement, Charles owned and operated a vacuum and sewing machine store in Yucca Valley, CA.  After retirement, Charles and his wife, Janice, traveled the US visiting relatives and sightseeing.  Charles enjoyed camping, gardening and pool time in his backyard.  Charles was active in the local Yucca Valley Community Chapel during his lifetime as choir director.

Charles was married to the former Janice Simonsen and spent 61 years together.  Janice survived Charles until she passed in August 2024.  They will now be interred together at Riverside National Cemetery.

Charles leaves behind his three children as well as eight grandchildren four great-grandchildren.  Charles was preceded in death by his father Thorne Jarvis and his mother Ruth.

You do not have to be a veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission.  All PGR members are welcome.  We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car.  If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our heroes.  No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service.  Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum.  Observe the 15 MPH speed limit.  Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground.  Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
