The family of Joel Young and friends, PGR and VWF member, James Burrowes (Choo-Choo), have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend the final military honors of their hero. It will be our privilege to fulfill their request.
Joel severed in the United States Army from 2010-2014. He was deployed to Afghanistan with the 2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment (2-1 CAV) “Blackhawks.” This is the nickname for the 2nd Squadron, likely due to their historical and current use of Black Hawk helicopters. He served with distinction as a Cavalry Scout, MOS 19D. At the time of his Honorable Discharge, Joel held the rank of Sergeant (E-5).
Following his proud service to America our hero worked as a Tap-Tech for a beverage company, then on a gas service drill crew for Northern Pipeline. Ultimately, his last 11 years were his favorite as a Conductor for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad (BNSF). Part of a conductor’s duties include overseeing the crew and managing the train’s travel and route.
In his free time our hero enjoyed playing golf and the game of cornhole. He was an avid Los Angeles sports fan, following the Dodgers, Kings and Lakers.
Our hero is survived by his mother, Terry Ennema, his father, Gary Young Sr., brother, Gary Young Jr., and his three children, Kason (16), Harper (12), and Declan (9). He will be missed by more in his extended family and his co-workers.
