The family of Benny Meza has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.

Benny started his career as a Law Enforcement Officer in Imperial Valley, CA. He later transferred to Orange County, CA and served many years as a Detective. Upon retirement he returned to Imperial Valley and eventually rejoined the Police Department in El Centro, CA.

Benny was a fun loving guy who was known for his humorous banter. He was loved by all and always kept everyone laughing. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and children. For all that knew Benny they will find a world without Benny, has lost a little bit of spark.

Benny is survived by his wife; Frances, his son; Benny Jr. and daughter; Michelle.

NOTE: Our hero is a very close friend of RC Lorenzo Lizarraga. Lorenzo plans to be there on the day before, Wed Oct 26, to attend the viewing and Rosary with the family. On the day of the funeral Lorenzo will be with the family at the Church but will leave for the cemetery one half hour before the funeral party leaves for the cemetery. He will then hold the Mission Briefing with the PGR at the cemetery and wait the arrival of the funeral party.

NOTE: This mission posting facilitates your voluntary participation in honoring this Law Enforcement Veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will hold a Flag Line Only at his final resting place. Please see the timetable if you would like to participate.

Time Table for Thursday 27 October 2022

0845 – Stage at Carl’s Jr., 1263 Tavern Rd, Alpine, CA 91901 (https://goo.gl/maps/JxkL4xQ3TRioJ7qcA)

0900 – KSU for El Centro Cemetery. This should give you enough time to also stop at the rest stop, just before El Centro, for a health break. Continue on to the cemetery. Lorenzo will be there for the mission briefing. When you get to the cemetery look for the gravesite and proceed to it. The cemetery is small and you should be able to see the chairs and shade set up at the gravesite.

1045 – Stage at Evergreen Cemetery, 201 E Gillett St., El Centro, CA 92243 (https://goo.gl/maps/AAaYgWdvD4PZ1rtEA)

We encourage those who do not ride to participate in your car. If this is your first mission, go to the initial staging area, where you will be briefed by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.

Remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent with honor and respect for our Heroes—no talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we honor.
