The family of Amos William Hand has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to our country. It will be our privilege to do so.

Amos was born in San Diego on 19 January 1955 and entered Eternal Rest at sixty-six.

Amos passed away from PTSD, alcohol, and heart failure and suffered from mental health issues.

Amos joined the Marine Corps on 19 October 1972 and was honorably discharged on 13 January 1977. Amos served one tour of duty in Vietnam. His awards/citations included the Vietnam Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

After leaving the Marine Corps, James was on disability.

Amos liked to work on old cars and motorcycles, and he belonged to the “Low Riders Car Club.” Most of all, he enjoyed working on his old motorcycle. He would spend most weekends watching low riders cruise Highland Avenue.

Amos is survived by his sister Anna. Anna is Amos’s only surviving family member. Amos was born in San Diego and lived in the same house his whole life. His sister still lives in the family house and has lived there her entire life.

The Patriot Guard Riders are requested to accompany Amos from the family residence to Fort Rosecrans.

Please observe the latest “COVID-19” protocol.

NOTE: This mission posting facilitates your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the family residence to his final resting place. Please see the timetable if you would like to participate. We will meet you there for those who would rather go directly to the cemetery.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this is your first mission, go to the initial staging area, and you will be briefed by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or wear casual attire while driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.

Remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent with honor and respect for our Heroes—no talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we honor.
