The family of David Preston Stroud, age 70, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to honor him for his military service, we are privileged to do so.

David Stroud enlisted in the US Marine Corps in August, 1969, and was almost immediately sent to Vietnam.  He was assigned to 2nd Squadron, 1st Platoon, FOX 2/7 and was a veteran of Hiepduc Valley (Death Valley), FSB Ross TAOR,  LZ Baldy and Cau Ha combat base. He was wounded in combat on May 1, 1970, and as a result was honorably discharged in Sept, 1970.

He achieved the rank of Corporal, and was awarded the following medals and commendations, Purple Heart, National Defense, Vietnam Service medal, Cross of Gallantry with palms, rifle sharp shooter, Vietnam campaign Medal with device, combat action ribbon, Commendation for outstanding performance as a team leader under fire.

After the military David went to work for the US Postal Service where he worked for 27 years until retirement. Loved baseball (Go Padres) completive fishing, camping, world traveler, Loved his dogs Louie and Jackson.

He leaves behind his wife, daughters Terri Feezor, Stephanie Gothard, Angela Walker, Brothers Dan, Vic, Jerry Bruce Campadonia  and sister Laurie Dull.  10 grand children and many nieces and nephew that he loved dearly.

David passed away of the effects of Agent Orange he was exposed to in Vienam, he suffered throughout his life of various illnesses as a result of that. This is a Combat Related mission, there will be Dog Tags.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the church service to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

1100 - Stage at St Anthony's Catholic Church, 630 Santa Fe St., San Jacinto, CA 92583

1115 - Mission briefing

1130 - Flag Line for dignified transfer of Hero from church to coach

1200 - KSU to Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA 92518

1250 - Est arrival at Cemetery

1330 - KSU to assigned shelter for Flag Line, Service, and Military Honors

You do not have to be a veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission.   Everyone is welcome.  We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car.  If this is your first mission, go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving in a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission that you can.  Please ride/drive safely and PLEASE hydrate.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
