The family of Robert Smith Viles has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to honor him for his military service.  It will be our honor to do so.

Corporal Viles was born on December 13,1933 in Madison, Maine to Guy Raymond Viles and Helen Smith Viles.

On March 18,1952 he joined the U.S. Army and was assigned to Army Ft. Devans, Maine to the 73rd Battalion to the rank of Private. He was wounded on December 20,1952 and was awarded the Purple Heart along with the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the National Defense Medal, the United Nations Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.  He was honorably discharged on March 17,1955. Corporal Viles was a brave and loyal soldier.

He married Helen Ortiz Viles in Hesperia, Ca. on May 21,1989. Robert worked and retired for Hughes Aircraft Company as a Crater Packer.

In his younger years he enjoyed camping, dirt bikes, and his dune buggy named “Trouble.”  He was an avid rabbit hunter who he enjoyed hunting without a beagle when he lived back home on the farm.  A passion he enjoyed in his later years was traveling to visit family and friends and frequent the casinos.
Robert was a patient and loving father and will be greatly missed  by his family, friends.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Helen Ortiz Viles, brother Glenn Viles, sister Shirley Beane, granddaughter Michelle Reynolds, and stepdaughter Sylvia Louise Meza.
He is survived by sister: Audrey McGee and husband Carl, daughters: Audrey and Wanda, sons: Robert (Bobby) Viles and Shawn Viles.  stepchildren: Denise Pena, and Benny Pena and wife Heather. 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 11 step grandchildren.

Note: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, please see the time table if you would like to participate.  There will be 2 paid motors for this accompaniment.  For those who would rather to directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely. 

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
