The family of Lorenzo Provencio has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

Lorenzo served proudly in the United States Marine Corps 1951 – 1953 and achieved the rank of SSgt.  He served in the Korean War as a tractor operator in the 12th Amphibian Tractor Battalion as part of the 1st Marine Division.  He was noted as MIA on his DD214 on 20 Aug 1952.  Lorenzo was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 3 Stars and United Nations Service Medal.

After the military, Lorenzo obtain a Master’s Degree in Business.  He was with the Chula Vista School District for 43 years.  Lorenzo was very involved with the South Bay and Sweet Water High School Districts not only being on the Board of Directors but also held the head Director position.  He was a Mason and had an enormous amount of energy in wanting to help in the community.  The list of his contributions to the community is endless.  A well respected member of the community.

Lorenzo is survived by his legal guardian, niece Linda Smith and her husband Michael Smith, 3 brothers (Luis Provencio, age 93, Army Veteran; Pedro Provencio, Senior Combat Medic Army Veteran; and Gabriel Provencio, USMC Radioman), and 1 sister, Susie Lopez, who was the only sister out of 10 children total (1 infant brother passed away) leaving 9 children.

Lorenzo touched so many people in his life and it is evident that he will forever be missed yet never forgotten.  May this great Marine rest in eternal peace.
