Rod was born in Stafford, Arizona. His family moved to California settling in the Victorville/Hesperia area when he was a child. Rod enlisted in the Navy shortly after graduating from high school. He served 3 years during the Vietnam Era and was proud of his service to our country.

He landed in Santa Maria after being honorably discharged where he met the love of his life, Anna, while working at a UnoCal 76 gas station in 1987. In 1990 he went to work as a bus driver for the Guadalupe School District. He retired after 22 years to enjoy life with his family. He loved ocean fishing, gardening, and woodworking - spent hours tinkering in the garage. As his health limited these activities,  he became adept at his computer.
