The family of Edward Chaides has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to honor their hero for his service and sacrifice to his country. We are honored to do so.

Edward joined the United States Navy during WWII in 1944 at age 17.  At the end of the war he was a part of the US Army-Navy Task Force in the Marshall Islands during the atomic weapons testing at Bikini Atoll.  His rank at discharge in 1948 was Signalman 2nd Class.

Edward was employed by Shell Oil Company as a senior draftsman until his retirement in 1986.  In retirement he took classes at Cerritos College in an interesting variety of subjects - Chinese Cooking, Stained Glass Windows and Woodworking.  His favorite hobby was raising Koi fish in his backyard pond.  Edward gave generously of his time to several Catholic ministerial programs.

He was the eldest of fifteen siblings, ten still surviving.  He is also survived by children Edward, Leonard, Karin and Kelly, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
