The family of Anita and Melvin Holt has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor these two heroes for their service to their nation.  It will be our privilege to do so.

Anita and Melvin Holt, 97 and 94 respectively, both served in the US Navy during WWII.  Melvin served as a signalman aboard the USS Lavaca (APA-180) while Anita, who was among the first women to enter a combat zone, started as Yeomen in Washington DC and then was named secretary to the commander of U.S. Naval Base Pearl Harbor. She rose in rank to Yeoman 1st Class faster than any previous candidate had risen.

Years later and after both their military careers had come to an end, Melvin and Anita were set up on a blind date by friends.  They were married 71 years and passed just months apart. Anita was a mother to 4, Grandmother to 6, Great Grandmother to 3, Sister to 9, Aunt to 19.  Melvin was a father to 4, Grandfather to 6, Great Grandfather to 3, Brother to 7, Uncle to 4.

In the beginning of her civilian career, Anita stayed home to be a mother to 4 and Melvin, in the beginning of his civilian career was a meat merchandising manager which lasted over 25 years. After he left that he went on the Usher for the San Diego Padres games and did so until he was 89 years old!

Please note that this is a Flag Line Only mission and each of these heroes will receive military honors for their service. The ceremonies will be performed back to back.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring these Military Veterans. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be standing a Flag Line for Final Honors.  Please see the time table if you would like to participate.
