The family of Sergeant Major George William Stapleton Sr., USMC, Retired, has invited the PGR to participate in honoring his life and service to his country. It will be a great honor to do so.

George was born on 22 February 1942 in Peoria, Illinois and entered into Eternal Rest on 10 March 2019 in Lake Forest.

After graduating from Tustin High School, George enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Sergeant Major George William Stapleton proudly served his Country in the U.S. Marine Corps for twenty years from 1966 to 1986 with part of his enlistment serving in Vietnam. Some of his awards/citations included the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Service Medal w/1960 Device, the Combat Action Ribbon w/Palm Frame, the Meritorious Unit Commendation w/2 Stars, Navy Unit Commendation, Humanitarian Service Award, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon w/1 Star, Pistol Sharpshooter Badge, Rifle Expert Badge 5th Award, and Good Conduct Medal Awards.

At the time of his honorable discharge as an E-9, Sergeant Major, George was stationed at the MCAS, in El Toro.

In civilian life, George worked for the Saddleback Valley Unified School District for fifteen years. During his time working at the School District he became the Head Maintenance overseeing that department.

George enjoyed telling stories, football and baseball. Besides spending time with his family, George had a passion for traveling, solving puzzles and watching sporting events. He would spend most of this weekends reading, gardening and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

George is survived by his daughters Lisa, Shirl, and Rita and sons David, George Jr., and Paul.  He also leaves behind nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
