The family of Donald Rodney Dyson, 74, has requested the Patriot Guard Riders be present at his final military honors.  We are honored to attend.

Donald Dyson, 74. known to his family and friends as "Bobby" or "Bob," was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 10, 2025.  He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.

Bob was born in Loma Linda, California, on June 4, 1950.  He and his family lived in Four Corners and Boron, California, where he attended local schools.  He graduated from Boron High School, Class of 1968.  After graduation he attended Bakersfield College.

Bob was drafted into the Army at the age of 19.  He was a proud military veteran of the Vietnam era, serving from 1970-1972.  He spent his service time stationed in Germany where he worked within the Pershing Missile Program.  While in the Army, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, as well as Expert M-16 Ribbon.  He was on honorably discharged at the rank of E-5.

Bob spent 40 years as a self-employed welder.  He welded primarily in Kern County but often would travel throughout the State of California.  He also worked on several job sites in Alaska, Hawaii, Arizona, and once on the East Coast in Providence, Rhode Island.

Bob had a passion for racing, whether it was behind the wheel of a car or boat, or just watching it on TV.  Whatever it was, if it went fast, he wanted to be around it.

He had always wanted to fly, so he once built an ultralight airplane from a kit in the front yard of his home on Columbia Lane.  He and his best buddy, Craig, would hit the runway and fly together for hours.  He loved the thrill and the freedom of the sky.

Bob is survived by his wife of 45 years, Diana; his three children, Rashaell (Eric), Lynnmarie (Jesse), and Beau (Natalie); nine grandchildren, Jimmy, Nicholas, Jacob, Aaron, Aiden, Dillon, Kaden, Drew, and Gracie; and great-grandchild, Alivia.  He is also survived by sister, Rickie (Richard); mother-in-law, Betty; brothers-in-law, Tony (Marilyn) and Jeff; his sisters-in-law, Shelley (Mark) and Donna (Chip); and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elizabeth, as well as his three siblings, Vicki, Happy, and Lucky.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this military veteran.  For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be a flag line only at the cemetery.  Please see the timetable if you would like to participate
