The family of US Army PVT E-1 John (Jack) Gavin Cannon has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service. It will be our privilege to do so.

John grew up in Los Angeles and was drafted into the US Army at the age of 20.  He served in in the Vietnam War in the 9th Infantry as a Combat Medical Corpsman and received the Marksman Badge (Rifle M-14), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Combat Medical Badge.

After being shot down in a helicopter, John was offered the Purple Heart.  For fear that accepting this medal would curse the remainder of his time in Vietnam, John declined accepting this medal.  Our Hero proudly served his country from 5/17/1966 to 5/16/1968.

After being honorably discharged, John enjoyed a 40+ year career in the RV industry.  He was a fun-loving, carefree, self-described “old hippie”.  John cherished life and spending time with his grand nieces and nephews.  He was 75 years old at the time of his passing.

John is preceded in death by his parents and older sister, Mary Eileen Reeves.  He is survived by his older brother Thomas Francis, nephew Matthew Reeves, nieces Kathy Necaise, Mary VanderLinden, and Karen Bautista.
