The family of Earl Eugene Curry has invited the PGR to honor their Hero with an accompany to the cemetery for his military honors, it will be our honor to do so.

Earl Eugene Curry died March 21,2017 at the nursing home of the Ridgecrest Regional Hospital. He was 91.

Eugene was born in LaJunta, CO to parents Emmett and Mabel Curry on Feb.26,1926. He was two years old when he, older brother, Leo, and parents moved to Southern California.

He graduated from Escondido High School in 1944 and entered the Navy (Sea Bee)in July of that year. After serving in the Philippines, he was honorably discharged in 1946. The Naval training and service became the focus of his college education. He began his college career at Palomar College, A.A. '48, moved on to the University of Redlands, BS, '50. That September he began to work at NOTS (Naval Ordnance Test Station), China Lake, CA. Because of on-and-off campus college classes he was able to complete work on an MS at UCLA in '65.

To further his career he chose to take a desk job in the Washington D.C. offices. So he packed up his boat and traveled across the country, settling in MD. He continued his interest in folk dancing where he met his future wife, Verna J. Shedd, a school teacher. He continued to work in the Washington , D.C. until his retirement in March, 1983. It was his great desire to return to the southwest. At this time he became very involved with the care of his father. By 1985 plans were in place to return to Ridgecrest, buy land to accommodate his love of gardening, and build a house.

Other interests in his life were two trips to Alaska, a trip to Nova Scotia, and many trips to the mid-west to visit family.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Verna, of Ridgecrest; brothers, Leo, of Douglas, Wyoming, brothers-and-sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews and grandnephews and grandnieces.
