The family of Donald E. Nicholson, 90, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend his services, it would be our honor to do so.

Donald Edwin Nicholson served in WWII, he enlisted in the US Army in March, 1944, he was honorably discharged in September, 1945 at the rank of PFC.  He was a radio operator and a rifleman.  He operated walkie-talkies under combat conditions and relayed messages using code between the command post and the platoon leader.

He served in Europe in the Rhineland Campaign and the Ardennes Campaign, and was in the Battle of the Bulge where he received injuries and was awarded the Purple Heart on 28 March 1947 for injuries received on January 6, 1945 in Belgium.  He was also awarded the Bronze Star.

After the war he worked as a carpenter and passed those skills on to his son and his love of creating things to all of his grandchildren.

Donald Nicholson is survived by his wife Billie Jo, children Steve and Diana, and 9 grandchildren.
