Part 2 of a 2 part mission.

The family if Yeoman 3rd Class Shingo A Douglass has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country.   It will be our privilege to do so.

Shingo Alexander Douglass, 25, was born at the US naval hospital on Okinawa and spent many summers as a boy in Japan where he learned to speak Japanese fluently.  He was proud of his Japanese and military family background.  His father was a Marine and young Shingo attended school at Camp Foster on Okinawa. An adventurous young man, Shingo loved to travel, was a certified scuba diver, a Black Belt in karate and played tennis.

In 2014, Shingo reported for duty aboard the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, USS Fitzgerald (the “Fightin Fitz”) homeported at Yokosuka Naval Base, Yokosuka, Japan.  He was thrilled to be back in Japan.  His father described Shingo as a beloved son, brother, grandson and friend who loved the U.S. Navy and was proud to be a part of the USS Fitzgerald crew.

Sadly, this hero was among 7 US sailors killed when the Fitzgerald collided with a container ship off the coast of Japan.

The family has asked the PGR to be present to honor YN3 Douglass for his service and his sacrifice. We are honored.
