The family has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to escort Pearl Ewalt Shatz to his final duty station on 20 February 2018 and it will be our honor to do so.

Mr. Ewalt Shatz was a member of the greatest generation and served in the Worlds Finest Navy from 1940 – 1946 where he achieved the rank of Petty Officer First Class. Petty Officer Ewalt was stationed onboard the USS Patterson (DD 392) during the attack of Pearl Harbor where he is credited with shooting down a Japanese Zero (his first time ever shooting the 50 cal. it should be added) on December 7, 1941. Furthermore, Mr. Shatz, in 1942, was also part of the battle of Guadalcanal.

Mr. Shatz received his final set of PCS orders to heaven on February 2, 2018. He is survived by his son, Steve and his daughter, Laura.

There will be a viewing at Miller-Jones Mortuary in Perris from 1030 – 1230, prior to the escort to RNC. American Legion Riders Chapter 852 will be standing an Honor Watch over Petty Officer Shatz for the duration of his viewing.

Note: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the mortuary to Riverside National Cemetery for his final resting place.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this is to be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
