The family of William Autrey has invited the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) to attend the Military Honors of their loved one as he makes his final journey. It will be our honor to do so.

William was born on 18 August 1922 and entered into Eternal Rest on 18 September 2018.

William proudly served his Country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II from 1942 to 1949. William flew bomber planes over Europe during the War and was aboard a plane that crash landed where he was injured. William’s awards/citations included the National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European Occupation Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Aircrew Flight Wings and the Bronze Star. William was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Colonel.

William later entertained the troops as a musician.

After the war William formed his own bands, the “Dixie Dandie’s” and the “Rhythm Aires”. His bands were successful for a number of years and after marrying Beverly, he went to work for Bell Telephone Company, where he rose to Vice-President of Sales. Because of the constant traveling and a near fatal accident, he went back to school where he earned his Master’s Degree. This took him into Social Work for the next thirty plus years until his retirement.

William loved entertaining people, and until a few months before his death, was going out and singing Karaoke three time a week.

William is survived by his children Carrie, Michael, Kelley, William Lewis, Laurie and Michelle.  He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. William is predeceased by his wife Beverly (after fifty-six years of marriage) and brothers Michael and James.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran.
