The family of William Charles Lamouree has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

Bill “Smartass” Lamouree, 73, was born in East Orange, New Jersey and raised in nearby Toms River.  Bill joined the US Navy in 1965 and trained as a helicopter mechanic prior to being assigned duty with Helicopter/Anti-Submarine Squadron Four (HS4) NAS, Imperial Beach, CA.  After discovering doing so would net him an additional $40 per month, Bill volunteered for service in Vietnam where he would serve 3 tours aboard ships in Vietnamese waters.

Bill was proud of his service in Vietnam, but he was proud also of his service aboard the USS Hornet where his duties would include maintaining “Old 66”, a Navy Sikorsky Sea King helicopter.  Old 66 was used during the late 1960s for the water recovery of astronauts during five missions of the Apollo program including Apollo 11; Bill was aboard the Hornet in the South Pacific when Old 66 recovered the Apollo 11 crew after their historic first walk on the moon.  For his service Bill was awarded the Armed Forces National Defenses Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal w/ 2 Bronze Stars.  He was honorably discharged in October, 1969 at the rank of Airman (E-3).

In his post military life Bill made his home in San Diego where he was a welder for Hyspan Precision Products in Chula Vista and the manager at San Diego Welders Supply.  His hobbies included woodworking, metalworking, flying model airplanes and flying his 1969 Cessna out of El Cajon's Gillespie Field.  Bill also loved riding his motorcycles and serving as a Ride Captain with the Patriot Guard Riders attending hundreds of missions honoring others who served.

Bill is survived by his sister, his 2 daughters, his son, 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and scores of friends who will remember him fondly for the gentle, caring soul that he was.

NOTE: This is a Combat Related mission for a former PGR Ride Captain so there will be tags.  We will also be assisted by California Motor Patrol.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying this hero and his family to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.
